Opening Statement Studio

Check back for 2021 dates later this year.
Only 6 seats available per Studio!
Are you ready to command the courtroom with presence and charisma?

That's exactly what you'll be able to do after attending our Opening Statement Studio. Over four intense days I'll give you specialized instruction on how to improve your presentation skills in a small group format, allowing lots of time for individual feedback. Here's how it works:

On day one and two, I'll
workshop your case and you'll learn skills for success in front of the jury. On day three, you'll practice what you learned in front of two mock juries while I coach you. On day four, you'll watch video of your performance and I'll give you focused feedback on how you can improve. Day three and four are videotaped and you will receive a copy.

In the Opening Statement Studio, you will learn:
  • How to organize your opening around case-specific trial themes
  • Tools for making your opening statement clear, concise, and compelling
  • Why you should always include a "teaching section" in every opening
  • How to frame the story from the defendant's point of view and why that's important
  • Ways to "de-jargon" your opening so it is engaging and memorable
  • The "rule of 3's" and why you should use it whenever possible
  • Why nonverbal intelligence is essential for trial attorneys
  • Storytelling techniques that will engage the jury
  • Presentation skills that will increase your credibility and hold the jury’s attention
  • Where to stand, what to do with your hands, and how to modulate your voice
  • How to command the courtroom and communicate leadership to your jury
  • Tips for gauging the jury’s receptivity and modify your approach accordingly
  • How to recover from memory slips, objections and other distractions
  • How and what to memorize
  • ...and more!

In addition, we go to a local establishment for happy hour on Thursday evening so you can relax & network with the other attorneys.

Why do you attend lawyer-training programs? To win trials. And yet, if we're honest, most seminars just give you theory; they don’t actually increase your skill in the courtroom. My program is different. If you are accepted into my Opening Statement Studio you’ll experience up-on-your-feet learning from the moment you walk in the door.

Is this program right for you? Don't take my word for it.  Here's what others are saying about their Opening Statement Studio experience:
“I thoroughly enjoyed attending the opening statement studio presented by Sari De La Motte.  So often, attorneys (myself included) get inside our heads… am I doing this right? Am I saying this right?   What made the studio great was seeing the moments when it all fit together. I know I’m walking away from the studio with enhanced self-awareness, better communication skills, and more depth.  Sari and her team (Kristi and Kevin) are top notch.”   - David Churchill, Las Vegas NV

“Persuasion requires substance (what you say) AND presentation skills (how you say it.)  Sari's courses have given me both! I have so much more confidence in how to communicate and teach the jury. I finally understand how to be their leader! The practice in front of the two mock juries and the review by Sari of my "performance" is worth the price of the course alone. Thank you Sari for bringing together all of the trial skills I have learned over the years. I am truly grateful for all that you have done in such a short time to make me a better communicator and lawyer!”  - Debra Nelson, Cincinnati OH
"This was an amazing experience.  It forces you to try new things and really get outside of your comfort area.  It is very insightful to hear what the jurors think and to hear what they pick up on that we don't even think about or know that we are doing.  I would highly recommend this studio to everyone.
It takes a lot of hard work and is exhausting, but it is worth every second.  Sari has an amazing way about how she relates to people and is able to pull the best out of everyone.  Everyone that was a part of the studio was extremely helpful and forthcoming with advice, assistance or war stories from their past experiences, which in turn helped to make my opening that much stronger.  - Kelley Durham, Tempe AZ

Opening statement is the one time you get to tell the entire story of your case. These two components of trial impact the outcome more than any other part. Why leave them up to chance?

Be purposeful in your communication and take your practice to the next level.

We only accept SIX attorneys per class, so complete the application below to apply for a spot in our next available studio.
